I'm so upset that I wasn't able to post all those good House fics I read at the end of the school year. I don't reliably bookmark stories, so I really don't remember which they were.

I'm in a bit of a Harry Potter phase. I just re-read Cambiare Podentes: Invocare by jordangrant (discontinued from, I believe, Aspen in the Sunlight or a name like that) and read what she has posted of Maduare. I love love love these fics. I read Cambiare when it was first posted and followed it addictively until it was taken offline by the author and then re-read it after jordangrant took it over and finished that section. This was years ago, or at least it feels like that, and it always stayed in my mind, even though I forgot the name. I somehow stumbled upon it and found out that she had started posting the second section. In other words, I've spent the last several days reading all of Cambiare that has been posted so far. You can easily find multiple links for the stories from jordangrant's page. I don't feel like giving an actual review or overview, but this story revolves around slavery. Don't let that scare you away. This is one of the best HP/SS fics out there. +++

Now I'm in search of more HP/SS and some HP/DM. *scurries off to find something*

As I said in my last post, I have zero time to post fics that I've read, which I feel really badly about. I'm not reading much, but I've been able to squeeze in something here and there. Hopefully by the end of next week I'll be able to read AND post! :)

Until then, I just wanted to say that I didn't mind the season finale. It wasn't a WOW kind of episode like the season 2 finale, but it was a good build up from the rest of the season and very obviously signaled change in the future. I'm worried about House over-improving in the next season or having no change (since this episode was obviously about a change in House). It's like this season: we can't deal with House who doesn't have leg pain--House can't fully deal with House without leg pain. We won't be able to deal with a House who's caustic but unthreatening, either. I'm not convinced that House is ready or able to make a full change, and honestly I don't want to see that. I don't think it's realistic. House is a screwed up guy, and that's one of the things that makes us love him. For House's sake, I want him to be able to be happy, but I don't want him to actually change. A House who is daring, gutsy, arrogant, playful, caustic, principled is great, but we need the underpinnings of his unending leg pain; his loss of mobility and the ability to play sports; his love of Stacy (I do think that he will always love her); his abuse as a child; his father's probable verbal abuse; his need to be unhappy; his addiction to drugs and speed; his screwed-up emotional pathways; and all the rest in order for House to really be House. That doesn't just vanish, and I don't think that kind of stuff can ever disappear. Anyway, I need to re-watch that episode at some point if I have time, and then maybe my thoughts will be productive.

I haven't read much fan writings on the episode because directly afterwards everything I saw was negative. Since I didn't dislike the episode, I didn't want to get bogged down in negativity. I did read gustav_anon's review which I enjoyed. I think she (he?) brought up some interesting points.

Final thought: I really hope that one or two of the ducklings stay on the show in some capacity. I'm thinking possibly as an attending or in another department. Issues: With a fabulous and prestigious fellowship in Diagnostics, it's strange to not follow through, it seems. Cameron, I'd say, seems least suited for more diagnostic work, but she's also the one I see most likely to become an attending. My reasoning for both of these... Chase I think is the only fellow who gets those lightbulb moments and has the same general thought process that House has. In my mind, that makes him good for diagnostics, and I think those skills would likely go to waste in an ICU environment. House didn't seem all that apt to want Chase around, though, and I think that may hold for an attending position. Foreman is obviously smart and hard-working. He'd be good in Diagnostics (but not great like House) and good in Neurology. He'd be an obvious choice for an attending, but 1) he's not ready, as it was pointed out, and 2) he doesn't want to work with House, and it doesn't seem as if that will change right away since Foreman is a stubborn guy. That leaves Cameron as a possible attending. I can see Foreman going to work for another hospital, but I'm not sure he'll ever be satisfied after studying with House. Maybe he'll return after he sees that House isn't who he thinks he is. I like Chase a lot, and I'd like him to stay on the show. Chase seems as if he's just go anywhere. He's not all that driven in any particular direction, and he's pretty easy-going. He could stay or go.

This is a hurt!House fic, a genre I'm very fond of. There were some things in it I didn't like (being unconscious for 20 minutes is very serious; House wouldn't just be left to wake up and then casually told to ice it), and a couple writing errors. It was OK to read, but I wish some things in it were different.

Snape is injured in the war, and Harry is a healer who's goal is to heal Snape. They have been eating together bi-weekly for 10 years, and everybody assumes Harry is in love with Snape. It takes a little longer for him to figure it out himself. This is a good fic and well written. It was predictable and not very memorable, but I enjoyed reading it.

Elicia's work is always gorgeous, and this is no exception. It's a close embrace between House and Wilson and obviously an intimate moment. It's sensitively done and features their hands, which has always been a weakness of mine. It's wonderful.

I think I'm going to try to use this journal to list most of the fic I read. I'll probably include a short summary and some kind of review system. This is for my own use, but if other people end up using it, then I'm glad to have helped. I'm not trying to write eloquent or complete reviews/summaries, but only enough for me to remember the fic and have enough information to find what I'm looking for. I try to comment on most of the fics I read on LJ, so that's where I primarily compliment the authors. Don't get offended if I don't rave about your fic. This is totally just my personal taste, and it's probably dependent on my mood.

My Fandoms:
Harry Potter: I read the HP fandom from about a month after the fifth book came out until about a month after the sixth book came out, and I've just started reading it again every so often. I'll read most slash pairings, primarily HP/SS and HP/DM (to a lesser extent), but also any other pairings that strike my mood (RL/SB, HP/Weasley, HP/RL, HP/SB, etc.). I'll read fic from any time period and some AUs. In my kinkier moods, I have a weakness for "consensual chan" (i.e. I don't get off on rape!chan), and I'll read some mpreg. In HP, I read primarily long fics.
House: I started reading House!fic this winter. I read slash, het, and gen, but I generally like House to be a significant character, and I don't like most House/Camerson. I read mostly House/Wilson, but I love Chase as long as he isn't feminized or infantized. I'll read House/Stacy and House/Cuddy when I'm in the mood for het. I don't mind Stacy, which I know is a fandom no-no. I like hurt-comfort, fluff, angst, death!fic, and whatever else you can think of. I read some crack. I read fic of most shapes and sizes, and I look at the art I see on some of the communities I follow.

What I Like:
I like creative fics that are well written with a good plot line (if a story is appropriate). Sometimes I like poetic writing, sometimes I like simple writing, so you'll see it all. I'm fine with any POV as long as it's done well. I get bothered by OOCness unless it's intentional or in order to get a PWP moving along or something like that. I don't like unusually weepy or over-emotional boys because I don't think it's in-character. House tearing up from pain is obviously fine; it's a physical reaction, and something I think House would try hard to prevent. I don't have a problem with fics glossing over how these seemingly straight characters turned gay, but I don't like House fics that don't respect the House/Stacy bond that obviously existed (i.e. saying that he never really loved her--I don't buy it). I'm fascinated by innovative magic in HP. In all fics, I like seeing how others react or respond to the relationship, particularly if it goes beyond "they already expected" or "they didn't care." I don't like bad grammar, spelling, writing, or formatting. I'm not easily squicked, and I'll read basically all kinks and other things that get warnings, including but not limited to: death!fic, non-consensual or dub-con situations, chan, mpreg, bondage, disipline, sadomasochism, waterplay, humiliation, rimming, un-hot sex, erectile dysfunction, masturbation, and exhibition/public sex. I'll try to include it in the review if I remember, but consider yourslef warned.

My Rating System:
My rating system, for now, is going to be blank, +, ++, +++. I plan to give + to fics that I like that are well done, ++ to fics that I really enjoy, and +++ to my favorite fics. I'll leave fics blank if I have a problem with it of some sort.

Additionally:
I may not actually post every fic I read; I may not summarize fics as the author desired; I may give faulty reviews. This is my opinion only, and it's first and foremost for my own use. I'm bad at LJ, so bear with me on things like that. I currently have 0 friends I believe, so definitely add me if you'd like. I've only written one fanfic, though I'd like to write more. I certainly do not think that I am a better writer than the vast majority of authors I read. I use painless_j to get around the HP fandom (and always have), and I mainly use communities to get around the House fandom. I'm hoping to branch out a little more in each.

I made this LJ so that I can finally comment on all of the wonderful fic I've been reading. I've been tempted to try writing, so there's a chance you'll see something at some point. Maybe. :) I may use this journal to keep track of fics I read and like, or I may just not write in it at all (or do some third option that I can't think of right now). Anyway, there you have it. For now, this journal is just so that I can participate in the LJ world a little bit.
